http://travel.cncn.com

East Lake was called “phoenix drinking pond” in old time. It’s said that Zhouwenwang, the founder of Zhou Dynasty, passed a lake where his phoenix drank water. Therefore the lake got its name “phoenix drinking pond”. In 1601, Su Shi, a politician and poet in Song Dynasty, was the officer of the government of Fengxiang County. He ordered people to channel water form the Jun River and enlarge the lake. Later, bridges and pavilions were built and trees lotus were planted. The lake were named “East Lake”, meaning a sister lake of “West Lake” in Hangzhou.

Now the East Lake is a famous garden for its scenery and sights.
