http://travel.cncn.com

Guanzhi Mountain is born       pure and elegant, just like a beautiful village girl without making up. It is over 100 square kilometers wide with a combination of mountains, waters, rocks, holes, springs, temples and gardens. The scenic spot is composed of five parts: the Guanzhi Mountain, Shimen Lake, Zhuan stockade village, Qishi stockade village and Jiulong Lake, displaying a fantastic view with magnificent mountains, clear water, remote valleys and grottoes. Guanzhi Mountain stands high and upright on flat. It seems like a huge coronal, for which it is named Guanzhi Mountain, and “Guanzhi” in Chinese refers to the coronal of an insect without feet. Moreover, with steep peaks and strange-shaped rocks, Guanzhi Mountain takes the shape of a blooming lotus flower; it is also called Lotus Mountain. Together with Wuyi Mountain, Guanzhi Mountain is reputed as one of the two unique mountains which top the world. Guanzhi Mountain takes up an area of 123 square kilometers with 53 square kilometers as its central scenic spot constituted of Guanzhi Mountain, Shimen Lake, Zhuan stockade village, Qishi stockade village and Jiulong Lake. Guanzhi Mountain was first exploited in Yuanyou period, Yuan dynasty and later it developed into a spot of poem and drink when booths and pavilions were built up with pines and bamboos planted there. The scene of Guanzhi Mountain is unique. There are a lot of historical relics such as inscriptions on cliffs as well as various kinds of pavilions, terraces, booths and ancient colleges. For example, Banyun booth, Songfeng booth, Dongshan college, Xiuzhu college, Lingzhi nunnery and cliff inscriptions in forty different places. The most precious inscription is the handwriting from Lin Zexu, a famous and respected minister in Qing dynasty fighting against opium, who wrote “Jiangzuo Fengliu” (meaning the wind is flowing at the left side of the river) on a horizontal plaque when he climbed to Guanzhi Mountain. The plaque is now in Dongshan script hall. Moreover, there is also “Zhuibu Dongshan”, the authentic work of Ji Xiaolan, a renowned personage in Qianlong period, Qing dynasty when he was the prefect of Fujian province. In recent years, Guanzhi mountain scenic spot has achieved large development. For instance, the mountain roads for tourists to climb have been repaired; hundreds of thousands of trees and flowers have been planted; Changshou pavilion, Ningbi mountain houses and other tourist venues have been built up; the best route for tour, featuring the scene of water first and mountains second, has been completed with improved service infrastructures. All this helps win ten thousand tourists every year. What is more, if one climbs Guanzhi mountain from the front and reaches the height of 100 meters, he/she will see an aged verdant pine of over 100 years standing there with a strong trunk and flourishing branches—this is the most famous verdant pine in Guanzhi mountain. In fact Guanzhi Mountain used to be covered by pines. However, due to the chaos of war at the end of Ming dynasty, steel making movement in the “Great Leap Forward” as well as the large scale lumbering in the period of Cultural Revolution, Guanzhi Mountain almost became bald when all the trees had been cut down except this aged pine. That is because it lived on cliff and could not be touched. Its strong, vigorous trunk and branches, as well as its upright stance leave you with some aesthetic feeling. Tourists can appreciate it in a six-pillared alcove south of the verdant pine.
