Songji Three Wells

There are many places that are worth memorizing in Daqing Fields, of which Songji Three Wells is the best place. In September, 1958, Songliao Petroleum Exploitation Bureau proposed at earliest time that Songji Three Wells be set up on the upper place of Datong Town Zhaozhou County. In April 11th, 1959, the drilling crew began to spud in. In the position of 1,050 meters deep, they found powder sandstones and fine sandstones in six sections of the wells, where oil immersion and oiliness are all discovered. At 4:00 pm, 26th September, Songji Three Wells burst up industrial petroleum flow. Hence Chinese petroleum industry history witnessed a new image. As the earliest petroleum well in Daqing Oil Field, Songji Three Wells were well protected. At first a memorial monument for completing of Songji Three Wells was built beside the wells. It was renamed as Songji Three Wells Memorial Site in the year 1999 after it was reconstructed. It was set on a platform of 1.9 meter high, the east of which is a petroleum exploitation tree in the form of Luoma used in Songji Three Wells. There are six knar gates in the three tubes, two of which are horizontal and the other one is upright. The tube is green and the wheels are red. In the west of the petroleum exploitation tree is a Songji Three Wells Memorial Monument, which is made of granite in hexahedron of 30 tons. The weight of the granite symbolizes that it is at the 30th anniversary of Daqing Oil Fied that the monument was built. On the front side of the monument characters which mean Daqing Oil Field First Well-Songji Three Wells are carved; on the back, epigraph introducing the process of well sinking is carved; on both sides schematic diagram, celebrating Chinese lanterns and oil sweepings on the mouth of the well are carved. The monument locates on the granite base, the upper of which is high in the north and low in the south part. The lower monument base’s ichnography is a ellipse, which is enchased with small screes. The screes symbolize that workers of Daqing Oil Field are hardworking, firm and indomitable, and brave enough to overcome any difficulties. Granite steles are enchased on both the front side and the back of the lower base, on which names of the geoscientists who have ever made contributions to the finding of Daqing Oil Field are carved.
