The Water Control Project at San Sheng Gong on the Yellow River was constructed in 1959. The Yellow River, which flows about 345 kilometers through Bayannao’er city, irrigates the fertile Hetao Plain by a main channel extending over 180 meters from east to west. The project is the heart of the channel as the main artery, with irrigation as the main function and other functions like shipping, road transport, and power generation, industrial water supply, and the multipurpose use of fishery cultivation. Its barrage, over 309 kilometers long, which stands with a large scale and grander on the swift and turbulent Yellow River, is a unique human landscape within Hetao Plain occupying the zones of 400 square kilometers.
