Fujian Introductions

Fujian is situated in the southeast coast of China, neighboring Zhejiang in the northeast, Jiangxi in the northwest, Guangdong in the southwest and Taiwan across the sea in the east. It is one of provinces in China's mainland nearest to Southeastern Asia and the Pacific Ocean in terms of maritime transportation, and is also an important window and base for China's communication with the outside world.

Fujian is a mountainous area famous for the picturesque Wuyi Mountain, the fascinating Taimu Mountain, the Qingyuan Mountain and the Guanzhi Mountain. Sea scenes in this province are also noted and featured, such as Gulangyu Island and Meizhou Island. Quanzhou city used to be the starting point of Silk Road on the Sea. Fujian is not only famed for its magnificent mountains and sea, but also for its ancient architectures such as temples, towers, bridges and mud buildings and so on. There are many famous temples in this province: Kaiyuan Temple in south Fujian, Yongquan Temple, Guanghua Temple, Nanshan Temple, Qingjing Temple and Mazu Temple. The mud building in Yongding used for residence in ancient times is a wonder architecture field. In one word, Fujian is abundant with navigational cultures and religious relics.

The advange of climate and geographical condition makes Fujian an ideal place for producing tea, flowers and fruits. Fujian cuisine, typically represented by Fuzhou dish and Minnan dish, is one of the eight prestigious cuisines in the country. Among them, the superfine dishes include "Fotiaoqiang" and "Jitangyonghaibang".

Many ancient traditional cultures have been reserved in Fujian till today. "Glove Puppet Show" in Zhangzhou and "Marionette Play" in Quanzhou are well-preserved and still popular with the local people. Nanyin of Fujian is the oldest musical form in existence in China which is called "Native Accent" by oversea Chinese. Xiang Opera, Liyuan Opera, Gaojia Opera and Puxian Opera are traditional dramas of Fujian.

Ocean Resources

Fujian has a wide ocean area with a coastline of more than 3,300 kilometers and over1400 islands large and small as well as 22 bigger harbors. The sea area of Fujian is the transitional sea zone between East Sea and South Sea. It belongs to the shallow sea of subtropics continental shelf The ocean fishing area of the whole province reaches 125, 000 square kilometers, and it's the main fish-producing area in China.

Fujian is one of key hometown for overseas Chinese in china. As early as Qin and Han Period over 2000 years ago, people of Fujian went out to other countries. The number increased after Tang and Song dynasties. After Opium War in 1840, a large number of Fujian people were forced to go abroad to make a living. The whole province has 142 key Buddhist temples, which is one of the provinces with most Buddhist temples in the world. Besides, there are also Iinduism, Manichaeism, Catholicism and Taoism in Fujian.


A large number of ancient traditional cultures have been well kept in Fujian, among which the most colorful is drama culture.
