Hebei Province surrounds the capital Beijing. It covers a total area of 197693 square kilometers. Its provincial capital is Shijiazhuang City. It is 283 kilometers away from Beijing in the north, adjoins Tianjian and abuts on the Bohai Sea in the east, holds in the mouth the two provinces of Shangdong and Henan in the southeast and the south, lies at the back of Taihang Mountains and neighbors Shanxi Province in the west, has a common boundary with the Mongolia Autonomous Region in the northwest and the north and borders on Liaoning Province in the northeast.

The topography of Hebei Province is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. It slopes from the northwest to the southeast with complicated and varied landforms. It is the sole province with seashore, plain, lake, hill and plateau. It has large quantities of natural resources with a complete variety.

Mineral Resources

116 types of minerals have been found in Hebei Province at present. Of them, there are 74 types of minerals with proven reserves and 45 types with reserves, which rank among the top ten of the provinces on the continent of China.

Water Resources

Hebei Province has a total coastline of 487.3 kilometers. Its coastal zone covers a total area of 1 million hectares. It boasts the natural conditions of developing industries such as marine oil, marine chemistry, marine transport and marine tourism. Qinhuangdao is a famous ice-free port in the north of China. Rivers such as the Yellow River, the Haihe River,the Luanhe River run through the land. It is suitable for developing offshore breeding.

History and Culture

Hebei is called Ji for short. It is located on the outskirts of Beijing. It is to the north of the lower reaches of the Yellow River and hence acquires its name. It is one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese nation. As early as more than five thousand years ago, the three grandfathers of the Chinese nation, namely, Emperor Huang, Emperor Di and Chiyou, turned from campaigns to fusion in Hebei and created the civilization history of China. The vast land and ancient history of Hebei Province has also cultivated splendid folk customs culture and folk arts.

Tourist Resources

The province has Shanhaikuan, "the First Pass Under Heaven", Chengde Summer House, the largest royal garden in the country, Eastern and Western Qing Tombs with grand vigor and exquisite stone sculpture, tombs of the Han Dynasty in Mancheng, which is well known in the world for the excavation of clothing, and the religious relics such as the northern and southern Xiangtang Mountains and the Qiaolou (Bridge-tower) Hall of the Cangyan Mountain. Chengde and Baoding has been fixed as the national famous historical and cultural cities.
Scenic spots such as Eastern Qing Tomb, Western Qing Tomb, Shanhaikuan, Xin’ao Underwater World in Qinhuangdao, Qinhuangdao Wildlife Park, Chengde Summer House, Puning Temple, the Temple of the Potaraka Doctrine and Wuqiao Circus World has been evaluated as the first 4A level tourist areas of the highest grade in the country.
